Flipper is an advanced computer game playing program that has been developed
to show how some of the new AI software technologies can be programmed. The
Amiga version of this program has been converted from its original language
to C and the final run-time version has been placed into the public domain
by the author. Flipper is a computer program that plays near championship
level Othello/Reversi.
The play of the game is completely controlled via the mouse. First, select
the skill level for the computers that are to play. Computer 1 is the
computer that would play as player 1 and Computer 2 is the computer that
would play as player 2. Then select the game mode. The modes let you
select if the human is to play as player 1 or player 2 or both or neither.
(That's right, you can have the computer play against itself.)
At any time during the game, you can change any of the selections, but they
do not take effect until the end of the current move. Thus, you can change
sides, change the playing level, or have the computer finish the game for
you by selecting the option. All selections are made via the menu.
